TOGETHER SINCE 1957

The European Union Celebrates the 50th Anniversary

On the 25th of March there is the anniversary of the first 50 years of the European Union. In order to celebrate this special anniversary there will be organised a number of events that have a look back in the past as well as forward in the future. Some events refer to young people and students with their hopes and expectations to the Europe of tomorrow. In contrast to this, other events, organised above all by European institutions, try to remind us of all things that were implemented by the Union from 1957 up to now.
The schedule for the corresponding events is available in all 22 official European languages on the website dedicated to the anniversary.
You can find the website on:
europa.eu/50/index_it.htm;
and the schedule for the events on:

TRANSPORT

New Airport Regulations for Protection of Passengers

The actual situation of flight passengers is not really pleasant: luggage lost, annulments of flights, delays or overbooking are inconveniences that unfortunately happen every day for lots of passengers. However, the European Union is once more on the side of the passengers and presents a number of measures to protect the rights of consumers.
The new airport regulations try to use the existing airport facilities in a better way in order to improve the access to the airports as well as the security and to reduce the inconveniences for the consumer. The whole lot of regulations shall be standardized and applied all over Europe.
The liberalisation of the business has led to a bigger competition and to a reduction of prices, but unfortunately also to negative consequences that the new airport measures shall try to reduce.

E-commerce, Mail-order-houses and Transfer of Cash: Ways of Paying Here and Abroad

Our modern time is determined by technology and those new electronic technologies bring the world easily to our homes and offices: Therefore, international ways of payment gain more and more of importance. International means of payment can also be essential if somebody or somebody’s family member is abroad because of professional or educational reasons and money has to be transferred.
Which ways of money transfer are there? How do they work? Which advantages or disadvantages and risks are connected to them?
An answer to these and other questions can be found in the new brochure of the European Consumer Centre entitled ’E-commerce, mail-order-houses and transfer of cash: Ways of Paying Here and Abroad.’
The free brochure is available at the European Consumer Centre Bolzano (Via Brenner 3, phone 0471-980939) and can be delivered to your home if you send stamps for 1,40 Euro to the office.

Important Advice!

A consumer contacted our centre after having received a message from an Austrian phone number on her mobile. The message asked her to dial a 899- number from a fix telephone or to visit the internet-site www.outlove.net .
This homepage is probably a kind of single-contact forum. We would like to draw the consumers’ attention to the fact that telephone numbers beginning with 899 have higher charges than the usual ones so that a call can be very expensive- therefore: be really careful if you receive such a message.
