Finally also Italy has its
Unified Consumer Protection Law
On October 23rd in Italy the unified consumer codex, the so called „codice del consumo“ (the consumer codex), has come into force. It constitutes a standard text in which almost the whole legislation concerning consumer protection is united.
This new collection of laws consists of 146 articles and covers the guarantee right as well as the legislation of the holiday packages, as well as distance selling and product safety.
By this new codex the single consumer protection laws have not only been collected but partly they have also been changed and/or abolished: for example the new article concerning the right of withdrawal in door to door selling provides an extension of the period from 7 to 10 working days.
It has to be waited out whether this standardization also brings the positive side effect that the respective norm is easier available for the consumers and the employers and therefore more widely applied.
The only drop of bitterness in this more than positive initiative is the fact that all the „old“ consumer protection laws (e.g. the implementation of the European guarantee by means of the decreto legislativo nr. 24/2002) have been abolished: for the consumer protection as well as for the consumers it will be a renewed change.
